SKB-HistorySKB Sails was started up in 1980 by David Spargo and Colin Bennett who had previously served their apprenticeships at Harry Daniels sail-loft in Penryn.

The two partners stared their sailmaking business at premises in Falmouth’s Highstreet, supplying local working boats, racing and cruising yachts with quality sails, covers and upholstery. Having built up a great reputation they were able to expand the business to its current location at the sail loft on Commercial Road in Penryn.

Over the years SKB sails has seen several young apprentices come and go, but there was one of those apprentices, Nick Head, who started with the company straight from school in 1999, developed a passion for sailmaking and racing which has seen him achieve the highest standards of bespoke craftsmanship along with a huge amount of experience on the water from dingys to blue water cruisers and superyachts. Having served a four year apprenticeship with SKB he continued to develop his knowledge of traditional sailmaking whilst also keeping up with the new advances being made in CAD technologies.

Due to ill health Colin Bennett had to take a back seat with the company and sadly passed away in 2011. At this point David Spargo began to hand over the reins to Nick Head, though he continued with the company right up to his retirement in 2012 and is still on hand to give the benefit of his vast wealth of experience and knowledge.
